Competition can be healthy but when it comes to pregnancy, not so much. But its easy to do since you have so little to measure your pregnancy against. Our good friend Kimberly is pregnant with her second child and has a due date shortly after ours. Her first born was very premature so we’re all hoping that won’t happen again. So when we heard that she was already at 2cm we were concerned (and jealous)
Julia is at the point where her Doctor Appointments are weekly and today was one of those days. She called me right after and I could tell from her voice she had some good news to share. Here’s what she said on her blog…
Today I went in for my 38 week appointment and was surprised to hear that I am 3cm dilated and 70% effaced. I was mostly surprised because I haven’t experienced any of the symptoms that the books talk about. I thought by now I would have at least experienced Braxton Hicks contractions, but none so far. It’s funny when you finally get pregnant you realize how every pregnancy is truly unique and no matter how many books you read it’s never going to exactly the way you experience it.
I am so happy to be in the home stretch. I’m excited to meet my little man and see what he looks like….
As soon as she told me we both cried out “yes! Take that, Kimberly” as if it was a race. It’s just exciting to see some real progress. You quickly get used to pregnancy and so subtle changes are easy to miss. Having a concrete number like this helps to gauge where we are in these last few days of pregnancy.
And by-the-way, we’re not in a race with Kimberly. I just want our little tax deduction to be born this year. Thank you Uncle Sam and good luck Kimberly. She’s due closer to Christmas.
