I recently mentioned why I like the ESV bible but I wanted to mention that I also use the NASB (New American Standard Bible) and NKJV (New King James Version) bibles. I just use the ESV (English Standard Version) most of the time. This is not to say that the other translations are evil and should be destroyed. Reading the Word in any form is usually better than nothing but the risk is that with looser translations, we tend to isegete the text rather than exegete the text.
Exegesis (from the Greek ?????????? ‘to lead out’)
Isegesis (reading-into the text)
Many of us have multiple copies of the bible in our homes. We’ve upgraded from one translation to another or have transitioned from a pocket bible to a study bible or one just got so worn out that it was falling apart. if you have extra bibles sitting around collecting dust, I have a solution – FreeBibles.net
FREEBIBLES.NET is a 501(c)(3) religious nonprofit corporation that provides new and gently used bibles to anyone in the country – free of charge.
I’m glad you posted this. I’m one of those people with extras; now I can do something with them besides shuttle from box to drawer and back again. :)
