I wanted to let you know about the little record label my friend Brian Thomas has been working on for the last couple of months. He just got the site up and running and will be releasing the first album in August, followed by a Christmas ep in the Winter and, God willing, the addition of 2 other bands/artists in the new year.
Semper Reformanda Records is an independantly operated label whose focus is on providing the church with contextualized and missionally minded worship music that is Biblically sound and God-centered; utilizing the great traditions of the past while forging new artistic ground for the present and beyond.
SRR represents the missional side of the reformed faith, taking the best of our present culture and past traditions to praise our King. Theologically speaking, we align ourselves with the ecumenical creeds of the early church, the reformed confessions best summarized by the Belgic Confession, and agree with the Cambridge Declaration that the church is in need of continual reformation/renewal. Culturally, we do not believe the church has ever “arrived”, and therefore we do not latch onto any one tradition. We recognize that music is a powerful gift of God, and one of many ordained elements of worship that should undergird the preached Word.
Brian (and SRR) will be releasing his first album in August and based on what I’ve heard through Bezalel and Call Down Fire, plus what I know of him personally, I am looking forward to this release. Visit the site and hear some samples and tell me what you think.
Electronica, downtempo, IDM, and experimental chamber pop thrown together in a stew of ambient worship music that is unlike anything else. TOT’s debut album, Hymns: Revisited/Remix, bridges the past with the present in a unique way that heralds the person and work of Jesus Christ. Look for this album to be out in August 2006.
