Scriptures for Labor and Birth

As we prepare for the birth of our second child, I am reminded of the importance of supporting my wife both physically and spiritually. All the breathing exercises and back rubs in the world won’t bring her reassurance like the truth of God’s word can. With that in mind, I want to share with you the verses I prepared last time in hopes it will be a blessing to you also. These were mostly taken from ajoyfulbirth.com with some additions of my own (or found elsewhere).

Knowledge

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever.” Ps. 111:10

“Wise men store up knowledge” Prov. 10:14a

“A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge increases power.” Prov. 24:5

“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5

Strength

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil.4:13

“Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.” Is. 40:31

Faith

Peace

“Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world.” John 16:21
