Where’s Waldo

This picture was taken with a robotic camera and weighs in at 1,474 megapixel. (295 times the standard 5 megapixel camera). It was a Canon that pulled together over 200 individual shots. Each zoom in takes a second to focus …and then you can see some amazing reactions. With these cameras the secret service has a record of everyone who attended.

I made this Gigapan image from the north press platform during President Obama’s inaugural address at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC on January 20, 2009. It’s made up of 220 images and the final image size is 59,783 X 24,658 pixels or 1,474 megapixels.

Read more about how it was done (and how to get a print) from David Bergman’s blog.

  1. I don’t see Waldo. :'(

Lots of nice lenses, and a lot of cheap cameras – what did one have to do to sit that close?

  2. hello… this blog is currently hosted by 1and1, huh? i want to know, if i buy domain name/webhosting at 1and1, does my order wil be confirmed to me via phone? in other words, does my order require voice/phone verification?

  3. Yes, this site is hosted by 1and1 which is a German-based company. Overall, I’ve been pleased with their services although there are certain features they don’t offer that are found in other providers. However, they do not require voice/phone verification. In fact, I’ve never heard of anyone requiring voice/phone verification.
