On Wednesday, we were over at a friends house and because it was their birthday the next day we all celebrated with some ice cream. Now this was Corbin’s first experience with an ice cream cone so he didn’t even know how to eat it. Julia had to show him and even then he was a little uncertain about how to lick an ice cream cone. Eventually he got into and was enjoying the ice cream like any kid would.

You can see in the video the tentative licking but the ice cream on his face shows that he was making progress. Unfortunately, that excitement you see in the video eventually led to the end of the ice cream as he inadvertently launched the remaining ice cream onto the ground in a fit of gleeful shaking. He didn’t seem too disappointed though. I just told him to focus on eating the cone now. I guess I should have been more specific because he turned the cone upside down to eat the pointy end and the melted ice cream that remained pour out onto the floor just after we had cleaned up the ice cream scoop that he had shaken free.

Note to self: don’t turn of the video too soon or you’ll miss the best parts.

OK, so technically its a trike but he took to it like a champ. One thing we’ve noticed is how much Corbin loves anything with wheels. Corbin got lots of other great stuff this year (and more tomorrow) and this wasn’t necessarily his favorite but this is something you have to capture as one of those precious moments.

I’ll follow up with a complete list of Corbin’s Christmas haul when we get back from my folks and for those who are wondering, its Schwinn Roadster 12-Inch Trike.Similar Posts:

Since Corbin’s second birthday fell on a Wednesday, we made a cake to celebrate as a family. Nothing fancy but he enjoyed it and so did we.

He spent the morning at the zoo with several friends which you can see over at Julia’s blog.

Halloween this year was a lot different than last year. First off, Corbin walked the whole time. That’s not surprising considering he couldn’t walk at all last year, but he usually gets tired/lazy and wants to be carried about half the time. i think keeping up with his cousins made all the difference.

What really made this year so much fun was to see how much Corbin was into the Halloween spirit. Not only did he keep up with his cousins, he also was real good about saying trick-or-treat (a first) and thank you. the funny part was how about halfway through the neighborhood, he started trying to give his candy to the neighbors (in stead of the other way around). Luckily, his cousins made sure he got his share even if he didn’t.

Overall, it was a great night with family enjoying a simple tradition we hope to continue for years to come. More photos at Julia’s blog

Corbin Beard’s outfit is coming together nicely. Grandma made the vest and sash/belt, the shirt and pants (not pictured) are off-the-shelf clothing. It’s not really as pink as it appears. That’s a result of our crappy cellphone cameras. Look for better photos later in the week. There may even be a child model next time.

Corbin at 22 months

Corbin is now 22 months old (has been for a couple of weeks now) and he still surprises me with every new skill. Most things are subtle and are only noticeable in contrast to what he used to do/say. He’s beginning to put two words together which sounds easy but for a child, that’s a major leap. He still doesn’t say “milk, please”, but he’s starting to put other combos together (just barely).

He’s also beginning to understand more complex things we say. We used to have to use simple one-word instructions like “milk?” “teeth” and “hug” to ask if he wanted milk, brush his teeth or give us a hug. Now we can tell him to pick up several things, where to put them and what to do next all in one command. he also relates things that used to be separate in his mind, but I assume that’s related.

As I mentioned last week, we picked up a playhouse/climber/slide thing. Well Julia set it up at grandma’s and Corbin took to it quite nicely. When he was smaller, he used to enjoy going down slides. Then one day, he suddenly stopped. in fact, he seemed a little afraid of them. he would climb to the top and act like he wanted to slide, but would scream in protest if you tried to get him to actually go down it. I think he’s warming up to slides again with his new play structure.

This past weekend, we went to Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Patch. Last year we we to Oma’s Pumpkin Patch so we thought we’d try something different this year. And different it was. After driving north about an hour, past the San Diego Wild Animal Park, and just before Valley View Casino and through some very windy country roads, we come over one more slight hill to see a very large and very crowded dirt parking lot – complete with parking lot attendants directing traffic. Luckily we found a nice shady parking spot and happened to park near the Morelands who we were planning to meet there (they were still unloading) – what timing!

The Bates Nut farm offers Tractor Hayrides, a Straw Maze, Pony Rides, an Interactive Petting Corral, Face painting, Kids’n Paint, Rock Climbing, Inflatable Slide & Bouncer, BBQ, Ice Cream, Kettle Corn, Potatoes, Tacos, Hamburgers & Hot dogs, Live Entertainment and a Craft Fair.

Everything was pay-to-play so you only had to pay for what you did and the prices were on par with the local fair. In fact, it felt very much like a small version of the county fair. As many people as there were, it wasn’t crowded but it wasn’t casual either. There was ample room to move around but there were people everywhere. Over all, we enjoyed it but I think we’ll look for something a little more relaxing (and close to home) next time.Similar Posts:

That’s what it’s called. Took me several tries to find it but find it I did. You’d be surprised at how hard it is to search for a product that doesn’t have any real unique characteristics, especially when it’s been described to you using certain words which are all too common. Look at the following images and tell me how you would search for this item. Your goal is to find the manufacturer and the cost of a new one. It was described as PORTABLE CHILDRENS CASTLE.

The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind. Actually it’s “stone climber slide”. That’s the search phrase I used to find this bad boy online and confirm it was really worth $300 new. Turns out it’s $250+ Shipping. Amazon has it for $267 with free shipping. Craig’s List had it for $100 – SCORE!

We’ve been looking for a climber/playhouse for Corbin recently. He’s enjoyed them when visiting friends so we thought it would be good to get him his own for when we move to Grandma’s house later this month. If he doesn’t, I’m sure his little brother/sister will. If they don’t, then the dog will. if that fails, it goes back on Craig’s list.
