A new kind of spam

I’ve been getting hit with a new kind of spam lately. the trackback spam. And it moves pretty fast. The post I just published…already hit.

Basically, a dumbing blog is created that post countless articles that basically read

and then is followed by a small exerpt. This is obviously automatically generated and is just another sad form of comment spam that clogs up our comment boxes. It appears they make money off the Google ads they run.

At first, I just deleted them but now I’m actually marking them as spam. You should do the same.

I have no idea how to mark a comment as spam, but I don’t seem to get too many – not so far, anyway. I’m not spam, Michele sent me :)

Dawn has got a number of those too. I think I’ve only had a couple of them. I mark mine as spam and have taught Dawn to do the same.

I would think that if someone mentions your blog, it would be a compliment. This whole spam thing has me going anyway. What started out as unwanted commercial e-mail has become almost any kind of communication at all. By the time everything you say is deemed as spam, you might as well shut your computer down and just forget about it.

The problem with these types of spam is that it is automated, not personal – but more importantly, it makes you look spammy to the Search Engines (Google , Yahoo, Bing, etc…). That makes it harder for people to find your site when looking for a topic you wrote about.

Have your say:
